Paediatric Chiropractic in Mandurah

Who We Help

Children and teenagers move through constant change. Growth, sport, school, activity and everyday life can all place different demands on a young body. When pain, discomfort or a musculoskeletal concern appears, assessment should take their age, development and individual circumstances into account.

At EiraForma, paediatric chiropractic care means an age-appropriate, considered approach to musculoskeletal assessment. It does not mean every child needs treatment, and it does not mean using an adult treatment plan on a smaller person.

Children Are Not Small Adults

A young person’s body, communication, activities and healthcare needs change considerably as they grow. Assessment and any care considered should reflect that.

For younger children, a parent or guardian plays an important role in the history, decision-making and consent process. As children become older, we also want them to understand what is happening, ask questions and be involved in decisions about their own care wherever appropriate.

No technique or treatment is automatically required simply because a child attends the clinic.

Musculoskeletal Concerns Can Look Different at Different Ages

Children and adolescents may experience musculoskeletal pain or discomfort for many of the same broad reasons adults do, including activity, sport, injury, changes in physical load or other individual circumstances.

back or neck discomfort · sport or activity-related musculoskeletal concerns · discomfort affecting everyday movement · symptoms following an appropriate return from injury · concerns where a parent or young person would like a musculoskeletal assessment · situations where another healthcare professional has recommended assessment

A symptom does not automatically mean chiropractic treatment is required. The first step is understanding what is happening and whether the presentation sits appropriately within our scope.

What an Appointment May Involve

What an Appointment May Involve

Conversation First

We start by understanding the concern, relevant medical history, activity, sport, previous injuries and what the young person is finding difficult.

Age-Appropriate Assessment

Physical or movement assessment is selected according to the child’s age, presentation and ability to participate comfortably.

Explanation

Findings and available options are explained clearly to the parent or guardian and, wherever appropriate, directly to the young person as well.

Decide What Happens Next

If chiropractic care is appropriate, options can be discussed. If medical investigation or another healthcare professional is better placed to help, referral should take priority.

If Care Is Appropriate

Treatment for a child or adolescent should be selected according to their age, presentation, preferences and clinical findings. Chiropractic care is broader than spinal manipulation and no technique is automatically required.

Depending on the individual, management may involve education, movement or exercise, practical activity advice and age-appropriate hands-on care where clinically appropriate and agreed.

Parents and young people are encouraged to ask questions. Treatment should only proceed with appropriate consent, and a technique can be declined at any time.

What We Do Not Promise

EiraForma does not promote routine chiropractic treatment for children who have no clinical reason to receive care. We also do not claim that spinal treatment improves general childhood development, immunity, behaviour, sleep or other non-musculoskeletal conditions.

When something falls outside musculoskeletal care, the appropriate GP, paediatrician or other healthcare professional should be involved.

Supporting Active Young People

School, sport, recreation and growth can create changing physical demands. Rather than teaching children to be afraid of movement, our preference is to help them understand their body, remain appropriately active and build confidence where this is clinically suitable.

For a young athlete, that might involve considering training and sporting demands. For another child, the priority may simply be returning comfortably to normal everyday activity.

Parents, Young People and Consent

Parents and guardians should understand what is being assessed and why. As children become capable of participating in healthcare decisions, their own questions, comfort and preferences matter too.

Nothing should be done simply because it is part of a routine. Any hands-on technique considered should be explained beforehand and appropriate consent obtained.
